SOUNDS RUSSIAN was an impressive winner for Ruth Jefferson and Jamie Hamilton in the most valuable race on the card at Kelso on Sunday.

The 9/4 favourite, running for just the second time over fences, stormed home by 16-lengths ahead of Uptown Harry in the Children’s Immunology Trust Novices’ Limited Handicap Chase.

Jefferson said: “We like him a lot and he’s got a lovely pedigree. The handicapper put him him up 10lbs for winning at Sedgefield last time so I don’t know what he’ll do after today!

“I’m not sure where we will go with him next but he’s bred to stay further and he’s a lovely prospect to have in the yard. Ideally Jamie said that ground is not what he wants but there should plenty of opportunities for him in the future.”

There were five wins for Scottish trainers with Nick Alexander, Stuart Coltherd, Sandy Thomson, Harriet Graham and Lucinda Russell all on the mark.

The latter saddled a one-two in the concluding amateur riders’ handicap chase as Buddha Scheme and Lyall Hodgins led home stable companion Prince Dundee.
