GRAND NATIONAL 2019

It’s looking more and more likely that Scotland will have three runners in the Randox Health Grand National.

Lucinda Russell is heading back to Aintree with her 2017 hero One For Arthur, Stuart Coltherd’s Captain Redbeard, who unseated his rider early on last year, is also being targeted at the race while the same aim has been confirmed by Nick Alexander for his rising star Lake View Lad.

Speaking to Lucinda at Ayr earlier this week she wasn’t sure if ‘Arthur’ would run next at Warwick or Haydock although she did hint that the Classic Chase at the former may come too soon which would see him tackle the Peter Marsh Chase instead.

Captain Redbeard, whose final National prep last year came when winning a handicap hurdle at Ayr, could clash with his Scottish rival in the same race as he was a game runner-up in the contest twelve months ago.

Plans are still fluid about where Lake View Lad next appears following his tremendous back-to-back victories in Listed and Grade 3 company at Newcastle and Wetherby.
