Gordon Brown – Race Reporter

Gordon has a wealth of experience of racing through his background in the written and broadcast media. His current principle role is reporting and supporting the scene in Scotland on Racing TV and relaying the latest news with Scottish angles.

David Pipe and Tom Scudamore team up once again as they bid for a third win in Sunday’s bet365 Sam Morshead Perth Gold Cup, this time with Romain De Senam.

The Somerset-based partnership won back-to-back renewals of the three-mile handicap chase in 2013 and 2014 with Problema Tic and Guess Again respectively.

Roman De Senam, previously trained by Paul Nicholls and Dan Skelton, has only had five runs for his current handler and they include a tenth-place finish in the Grand National at Aintree in April.

Others in the five-runner line-up include Gordon Elliott’s Glenloe, carrying the famous J P McManus colours and ridden by Sean Bowen, whose brother James won last year’s race aboard Landofsmiles trained by his father Peter.

Elliott has six runners on the card overall and he is just seven shy of saddling his 200th winner at the Scone track.

Recent Aintree scorer Exelerator Express represents Neil Mulholland and Sam Twiston-Davies while dual champion jockey Brian Hughes rides Minella Trump, who has won all previous five starts at Perth.

Matthew Taylor, Perth Racecourse Racing Manager, said: “It’s fantastic to welcome back bet365 as our valued sponsor for the day including the bet365 Sam Morshead Perth Gold Cup. The going is Good, watering to maintain, with a bright and sunny outlook for the weekend.”

The first of seven races on Sunday is at the revised time of 2.20pm with the bet365 Sam Morshead Perth Gold Cup at 4.01pm and live on ITV Racing.
