MANIGORDO goes for a repeat success in the £20,000 Gaynor Winyard Trophy Handicap on a sold-out Stobo Castle Ladies Day card at Musselburgh on Friday.

Trained by Tim Easterby, the Yorkshire raider got up in the shadow of the post to scramble home by a short-head twelve months ago.

In a strong renewal of the seven-furlong contest, stern opposition includes Jim Goldie’s Yaaser, a course and distance winner last time, Bicep, another winner over this trip back in the spring for Grant Tuer, and Judgement Call for Linda Perratt, who has already saddled two winners this week.

The East Kilbride handler is also represented by Monhammer, the winner of a similar race on the corresponding card last year, in the Madeleine Cup Handicap and Chinese Spirit, another on a repeat mission after his victory last year in the Champagne Pommery Rose Magnum Handicap.

“The horses are all in pretty good form and it’s nice that they are winning now,” Miss Perratt said. “Monhammer has actually won twice at Musselburgh so fingers crossed he will go close again.

“Chinese Spirit is a legend of a horse. He’s won eight races and deserves to get his head back in front as he’s been second four times this year already.”
