Hamilton Park – Preview 4th July 2023

Gordon Brown – Race Reporter

Gordon has a wealth of experience of racing through his background in the written and broadcast media. His current principle role is reporting and supporting the scene in Scotland on Racing TV and relaying the latest news with Scottish angles.

AUSTRIAN THEORY, trained by Charlie Johnston and ridden by Joe Fanning, is after back-to-back wins in the feature race at Hamilton Park on Tuesday.

A half-length scorer off a one-pound higher mark twelve months ago, he faces five rivals in his repeat bid in the £30,000 Aspire Cleaning Company Almada Mile Handicap.

He has already carried the predominantly green colours of his Scots owner Dr Jim Walker to victory this term when making all at Epsom on Oaks Day.

His rivals include likely favourite, Karl Burke-trained Eilean Dubh, a course and distance winner last May on his only previous visit to the south Lanarkshire track.

Also in the line-up is Roger Varian’s Newmarket raider Fantastic Fox, a 260,000gns yearling who was fifth behind Austrian Theory at Epsom.

Following his three winners at Royal Ascot, Archie Watson is represented by Imperiality in the opening EBF Restricted Maiden Stakes.

The Lambourn filly, related to multiple Classic heroine Salsabil on the dam side of her pedigree, steps up to six-furlongs for the first time in her short career.

Jordan Electrics, under Rowan Scott, smashed the track record when scorching home in last year’s #Cleanstay At Hampton By Hilton Handicap and there should be plenty of pace on again with recent all-the-way winner Iris Dancer, ridden by the Hawick jockey, likely to be of one those forcing the pace.
