Hamilton Park – Preview 31st May 2023

Gordon Brown – Race Reporter

Gordon has a wealth of experience of racing through his background in the written and broadcast media. His current principle role is reporting and supporting the scene in Scotland on Racing TV and relaying the latest news with Scottish angles.

MARTIN TODHUNTER is hoping a return to Hamilton Park on Wednesday will see his David Nolan-ridden Molinari regain the winning thread.

Trained at Orton, near Shap in Cumbria, the six-year-old shoulders top-weight in the Weatherbys Global Stallions App Handicap.

“It just hasn’t happened for him this season but at least he’s dropped a few pounds as a result,” Todhunter said. “He won over course and distance on his only previous visit a couple of years ago and he had winning form on quick ground before he came to us.”

Mick and David Easterby’s Where’s Jeff has been raised 2lbs for a recent course and distance strike while Jim Goldie-trained A La Francaise won over this same 1m 3f trip at Hamilton Park last September

Twelve months ago, Inver Park landed the Weatherbys Digital Solutions Handicap before taking the Buckingham Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot as few weeks later.

This time round, Jim Goldie’s Yaaser makes a quick reappearance after a major gamble on him was foiled at Ayr last Wednesday when he could only finish third.

Kevin Ryan has recorded more winners at Hamilton Park than any other turf venue in the UK and his only runner on the card is Crack The Code in the EBF Restricted Maiden Stakes.

The Hambleton trainer, who gained his 123rd course success at the South Lanarkshire track’s May 19th meeting with Jungle Mate, will hoping the speedily-bred gelding can build on his fourth-place debut effort at Beverley.

Amie Waugh took the opening Follow Us On Twitter @hamiltonparkrc Apprentice Handicap last year on Jim Goldie’s Rory and she tries to win it again on Be Proud, who is also saddled by the Uplawmoor trainer.
