Ayr – Preview 23rd February 2026

Gordon Brown – Race Reporter Gordon has a wealth of experience of racing through his background in the written and broadcast media. His current principle role is reporting and supporting the scene in Scotland on Racing TV and relaying the latest news with Scottish angles.

Martin Todhunter has his eye on more Ayr success with Tommy Combats in the Every Race Live On Racing TV Handicap Chase.

Trained near at Orton, near Shap summit in Cumbria, the seven-year-old was a fluent winner over two miles at the track 25-days ago.

“We had him entered again for Ayr recently but we felt that the race would maybe just have come that little bit too soon,” Todhunter said. “He’s barely put a foot wrong in his four previous visits to the track and his owner Bill Hazeldean loves to have runners in Scotland as that’s where he is based.

“The Handicapper has put him up a few pounds for his last win but we feel there is more to come, especially he’s going back up to 2m 4f. The horse that beat us over course and distance in November won again the other day so you would like to think the form is okay.”

One of the main dangers to Tommy Combats could be chasing newcomer Jaccours, one of several horses on the card representing the powerful combination of Sean Bowen and Olly Murphy.

The pair also team up with Diamond Geezer in the Join Racing TV Now Handicap Hurdle.

Now 7lbs higher after his course and distance romp in late January, the Warwickshire raider shoulders top-weight of 12st under the reigning champion jockey, who clocked up his 200th victory of the season last week.
