THE GAY BLADE is on a hat-trick as he bids for his sixth victory of the year in the Millar Callaghan Engineering Handicap.
Trained by Iain Jardine, he has three wins to his name already at Newcastle this term and shoulders a 4lb penalty for the latest of two back-to-back strikes at Carlisle.
“It’s a quick turnaround from winning on Monday but he did it cosily enough and he’s obviously in great form,” Jardine said. “He hasn’t won at Ayr yet but hopefully that will change and he is certainly giving our own Racing Club members a lot of fun.”
Modern-day record holder Glasses Up is after his twelfth win at his local venue in the AU Signature Handicap.
Trained at Galston by Mike Smith, the eleventh-year-old is set to be partnered by Billy Garritty, the 30th different jockey to have ridden him.
There are a quartet of the runners in the 1m2f Tennent’s Lager Handicap with twelve wins between them and leading the way with five is Jim Goldie-trained Dwindling Funds.
He scored over course and distance last July before adding two wins over seven-furlongs and another couple over a mile for good measure in late summer and early autumn.
