CAN KEITH STRIKE GOLD IN BIG RACE TRIAL.

The feature race at Glasgow Fair Family Raceday at Ayr Racecourse today Monday is the first running of the Ayr Gold Cup Trial over six furlongs at 4.10pm.

The 12 strong field for this £30,000 contest is headed by top weight Aberama Gold from the Keith Dalgleish yard. The now five year-old won the nursery handicap at the Ayr Gold Cup Festival in 2019 and less than a month later added black type to his profile when landing the Listed Rockingham Stakes at York.

He has come down in the weights in recent times but showed he retains plenty of ability when going down by a head to Julie Camacho’s Quest For Fun. He takes on that opponent again today with regular jockey Callum Rodriguez riding.

The aforementioned Quest For Fun will also be a huge player in today’s race with Graham Lee piloting while another to catch the eye is Snash from the in-form Tim Easterby yard.

Last year’s Ayr Bronze Cup winner Call Me Ginger is also in the field with Paul Mulrennan riding for Jim Goldie and this consistent gelding won here in June just touching off Jordan Electrics who also runs today with Rowan Scott in the plate for Ewan Whillans.

The main supporting race on the card is the Ayrshire Cancer Support Handicap over seven furlongs at 4.45pm where former two time champion jockey Paul Hanagan is a very interesting jockey booking for the Linda Perratt trained bottom weight Judgment Call who drops back in trip after running over a mile for most of the season.

The first race is due off at 1.50pm and gates open at 11.50pm. All children’s entertainment is free and under 18s go free if accompanied by an adult.
