Sandy Thomson is looking forward to running Dedicated Hero over fences for the first time in the Book Coral Scottish Grand National ‘Chasing Excellence’ Novices’ Chase.

In a hot-looking two miler, his rivals include the likes of Olly Murphy’s Fingle Bridge and Ben Pauling-trained Meetmebythesea, who both have winning chase form already this term.

“We felt now was the time to go over fences and it was this time last year that he won in Grade 2 company over hurdles at Haydock so he’s got a a bit of class,” Thomson said. “He was entered at Kelso the other day but when that got abandoned this was the obvious alternative so it’s a good starting point.”

Kelvin Forlonge bids to follow up his early December course and distance strike in the Book Your Celebration @westernhousehotel.co.uk Handicap Hurdle.

Jointly-trained by Lucinda Russell and Michael Scudamore, he has been raised 6lbs for that comfortable breakthrough success under Patrick Wadge with runner-up Showshine Boy, a faller since at Wetherby, re-renewing rivalry this afternoon.
