Shoeshine Boy is after a fifth course and distance victory at Ayr in the Join Racing TV Now Handicap Hurdle.
Donald Whillans’ Hawick raider is also on a hat-trick following back-to-back wins at his favourite track last month.
“He’s been a real fun horse and has given the local guys that have him plenty of great times,” said Whillans’ son and assistant Callum. “Though he’s not the biggest, he’s a wee trier and a right battler – his jumping is also a huge plus point point in his favour at this level.”
Fellow course and distance scorers, Philip Kirby-trained Be The Difference and Nick Alexander’s Better Be Definite, are just two of the rivals facing Shoeshine Boy in the extended three-mile contest.
The Whillans stable will also be fancying the chances of So Many Roads and Cowboy Cooper, who combined to supply their handler with a memorable 41/1 Ayr double on January 2.
So Many Clouds, who scrambled home by a head, runs in the Join Racing TV Now Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle while Cowboy Cooper, a handsome winner by over six-lengths last time, contests the Every Race Live On Racing TV Handicap Chase.
