Perth- Report 22nd April 2022

Gordon Brown – Race Reporter

Gordon has a wealth of experience of racing through his background in the written and broadcast media. His current principle role is reporting and supporting the scene in Scotland on Racing TV and relaying the latest news with Scottish angles.

Ben Pauling and Luca Morgan teamed up for their first course success in style as Slipway romped to victory in the £30,000 William Hill Highland National on the final day of the Perth festival.

Appearing over fences for just the fifth time, the 10/1 chance took up the running on the far side last time round before staying on strongly to beat Dubai Devils by two and a half lengths.

Morgan, having just his third ride at the Scone track, said: “It’s the biggest win of my career and I’m delighted. My agent Dave Roberts has just announced his retirement so I’d like to pay tribute to him.

“This horse is having his first season as a chaser and I’ve already won on him at Southwell. He was so good today and he stays so well – as he’s only seven he’ll hopefully have a very bright future.”

Brian Hughes took his seasonal tally onto 204 with treble aboard Parisencore, Minella Trump and Into Overdrive and 20-year-old Patrick Wadge registered his first winner on his 64th ride on Petite Rhapsody.
