Perth- Report 20th April 2022

Gordon Brown – Race Reporter

Gordon has a wealth of experience of racing through his background in the written and broadcast media. His current principle role is reporting and supporting the scene in Scotland on Racing TV and relaying the latest news with Scottish angles.

BRIAN HUGHES became just the fourth jump jockey in history to reach 200 winners in a season when making all on Dreams Of Home in the Bob Nelson Capercaillie Handicap Chase.

It is an exclusive club with only Peter Scudamore, Richard Johnson and Sir A P McCoy previously reaching a double century.

Hughes was applauded back into the winners’ enclosure by his weighing room colleagues and he said: “I’m not the type to get emotional but that reception was very touching and totally unexpected. It’s been an unbelievable season and I’ve so many people to thank including my family, my agent and all the trainers that have supported me, especially Donald McCain.”

Both the featured Listed went to Ireland with John McConnell-trained Mahler Mission taking the British EBF William Hill Gold Castle ‘National Hunt’ Novices’ Hurdle and Gordon Elliott’s Daphne Moon landing the William Hill Fair Maid Of Perth Mares’ Chase.
