Charlie Johnston struck in the Sky Bet Sunday Series Middle Distance Handicap at Musselburgh with Fairmac ridden by Franny Norton.

The Kingsley House trainer said: “It’s a great series and there is something for everyone. We had seven runners today so it’s nice to give it plenty of support. I’m really pleased for this horse to get his head in front again.”

Teenage riding sensation Billy Loughnane rode out his 5lb allowance when landing the opening apprentice handicap on Jer Batt, trained by David and Nicola Barron.

He said: “It’s only the second time I’ve been here so it’s great to get my claim down to 3lb. He’s done the job nicely and won pretty well in the end.”

The Barrons went on to complete a double when Ben Curtis rode On A Session to victory in the Sky Bet Sunday Series Handicap.

Connor Beasley scooped the £10,000 award for the leading jockey after a third placed effort coupled with wins on Elim and The Thin Blue Line earned him 23 points.
