Musselburgh- Report 3rd January 2023

Gordon Brown – Race Reporter

Gordon has a wealth of experience of racing through his background in the written and broadcast media. His current principle role is reporting and supporting the scene in Scotland on Racing TV and relaying the latest news with Scottish angles.

NOTLONGTILLMAY, ridden by Patrick Cowley, was an impressive winner of the feature race at Musselburgh for in-form trainer Laura Morgan.

Sent off the 7-4 favourite, he made it two from two over fences with a 16-length success over Barrichello in the Fitzdares Novices’ Limited Handicap Chase.

Morgan, who has improved her tally over the past three seasons, said: “That’s us not far short of last year’s number and there’s still four months of the season left. This horse has his own way of jumping but it’s effective and he’s still only seven so hopefully there will be plenty of improvement left to come.”

Lucinda Russell started the day on a winning note when Red Missile took the Fitzdares Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle under Patrick Wadge.

There was more Scottish success as James Ewart-trained Community Rebel scrambled home by a neck in the Fitzdares Maiden Hurdle for Ed Austin.

And Ryan Mania and Sandy Thomson kept their hot streak going with Massini Man, who impressed in the Fitzdares Handicap Chase.
