The top-weight was ridden by Ben Curtis for the David & Nicola Barron combination with well-backed fellow 3-1 joint-favourite Gweedore only denied on the line.

Ruth Carr-trained City Wanderer, led. Up personally by the Stillington handler, sprung a 20-1 surprise in the Racing Welfare Supporting Racing’s Workforce Handicap.

Winning for the first time in three years, he made all the running under Tom Eaves on his way to beating Will He Dance by a length.
