Musselburgh – Report 19th February 2023

Gordon Brown – Race Reporter

Gordon has a wealth of experience of racing through his background in the written and broadcast media. His current principle role is reporting and supporting the scene in Scotland on Racing TV and relaying the latest news with Scottish angles.

Stuart Coltherd was in great form at Musselburgh on Sunday when he completed a near 24-1 first and last race double with Midnight Shuffle and Budarri.

The former collected a £20,000 breeders bonus for landing the Racing TV Cosmic Case Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle before Budarri took the concluding Racing TV Profits Returned To Racing Handicap Chase.

Selkirk-based Coltherd said: “I’m pleased for Midnight Shuffle’s owner as she picked up a leg injury after winning her bumper at Kelso in the backend of 2021. She stays further than this two miles but we saw the opportunity of the bonus for a British-bred mare and it’s fairly boosted the prize money we’ve won.”

Mike Smith saddled his first winner for 167 days when Euchan Falls took the Leaping Deere Novices’ Handicap Hurdle under Danny McMenamin, who was later successful aboard Budarri.

The Ayrshire trainer said: “This is a horse that stays well and has gone close to winning several times before today. He’s a horse who will go chasing and he’s still only six.”

Iain Jardine and Lucinda Russell were also on the mark as they struck respectively with Lastofthecosmics and Methodtothemadness .
