Hamilton Park – Report 16th June 2021

By Gordon Brown

BEN CURTIS stole the show at Hamilton Park on Wednesday when riding a 21/1 hat-trick in the first three races.

The Irishman, who has plenty of fancied rides at Royal Ascot over the next three days, struck on Mark Johnston pair Jilly Cooper (named after the author) and Qipao in the opening two juveniles contests before completing his treble on Liam Bailey’s Stronsay in the Scottish Racing Supporting #Racingwithpride Handicap.

Curtis said: “Jilly Cooper probably broke too fast for her own good at Beverley on her debut but she was pretty good today. She has plenty of natural speed and ran on strongly all the way to the line.”

Iain Jardine and Andrew Mullen, along with the Let’s Be Lucky Racing syndicate, teamed up to land a 57/1 double with Havana Party and Jump The Gun.

The former took the Follow @hamiltonparkrc On Twitter Handicap at 12/1 while the latter came from last to storm home under top-weight in the #Cleanstay At Hampton By Hilton Bothwell Castle Handicap.

Jardine said: “The horses are all running well at the minute and we nearly took these two out when the ground was good to firm last night. The rain came in time as they like to get their toes in a wee bit. I’m pleased for Andrew as he rides a lot for us now and is a very underrated jockey.”
