MAKAROVA produced a blistering turn of foot when scotching home in the Unite The Union Thanking Our Members EBF Land O’Burns Fillies’ Stakes at Ayr on Saturday.

Trained by Ed Walker and ridden by Paul Mulrennan, the 7-1 chance slammed Marine Wave by a length and a quarter in the five-furlong Listed contest.

“Ed spoke to me this morning and he really fancied her to run well,” said the winning jockey. “She switched off nicely and quickened away in the style of a smart filly.”

Kihavah, trained by Adrian Keatley and partnered by Billy Lee, kept his good run when landing the Unite Scotland’s Farewell To Pat Rafferty Handicap.

“He’s been a real bargain as he only cost 8,500gns,” said Yorkshire-based Keatley. “I’ve got a heritage handicap in mind at Newmarket and maybe the Summer Plate at Market Rasen and he’s also quite a smart hurdler.“.”
