Ayr – Report 12th August 2023

Gordon Brown – Race Reporter

Gordon has a wealth of experience of racing through his background in the written and broadcast media. His current principle role is reporting and supporting the scene in Scotland on Racing TV and relaying the latest news with Scottish angles.

Veteran owner Hal McGhie was all smiles after he saw Iain Jardine-trained Innes Gal come home a fluent winner of the Scottish Sun Handicap.

McGhie, who turned 91 earlier this year, said: “We’ve always liked him and he’s got a bit of class although Iain is thinking of running him over hurdles. I had a wee bet on but not too much.

“I’ve owned horses for many years now on the Flat and over jumps. I tend to have most of them on the Flat these days as I don’t like the cold jumping weather at my age!”

Katie Scott struck in the afternoon down at Newmarket with Gweedore and the Galashiels trainer doubled up with Thaki in the Specsavers Handicap.

“It’s been quite a day and I might be a bit creative and give  Gweedore an entry in the Ayr Gold Cup – it might not be his trip but you never know what might happen if he got a bit of soft ground.”
