Flint Hill returns to Perth hoping to repeat April’s festival success

SURPRISE William Hill Perth Festival winner Flint Hill is after more success at the Scone track in Thursday’s feature race.

Sent off at 28-1 over course and distance three weeks ago, this time Ruth Jefferson’s Malton raider is one of the market principals in the £12,000 Tay FM’s Wake Up With Webster Handicap Hurdle.

Jamie Hamilton, who rode the five-year-old to a comfortable victory, is again in the saddle and he said: “Flint Hill came to Ruth from Michael Dods in the autumn of 2019 and she has done a really good job with him.

“Before he won at Perth, he’d run really well in third on the Flat at Newcastle for Graham Lee. I was quite patient with him as it was his first crack at two-and-a-half miles but he travelled well and stayed on strongly all the way to the line.”

Rivals to Flint Hill include previous course winners Get Out The Gate, trained by Sandy Thomson, Lucinda Russell’s Celtic Flames as well as Lady Bowes and Pammi representing Jimmy Moffatt and Jim Goldie respectively.

Fresh from a personal-best campaign when he sent out 104 winners (including four at Perth), Fergal O’Brien is set to saddle three runners starting with City Derby in division one of the Perth Slater Menswear Follow Us @slatermenswear Maiden Hurdle.

The Gloucestershire trainer is also responsible for Ask Dillon who resumes his career over fences under Paddy Brennan in the DM Hall Chartered Surveyors Novices’ Chase.

Currently on a BHA rating of 149, the gelding has twice contested Grade 1 company over hurdles at the Cheltenham Festival and faces four rivals including hat-trick seeking Ballymoy representing Nigel Twiston-Davies and Daryl Jacob.
