The Tote was first established by Winston Churchill in 1927 as a horseracing pool betting provider. After the sale of the business by the Government five years ago to Betfred, Totesport retained its roots in the sport and the company continues to offer the popular Totepool bets such as the Scoop6, Placepot and Jackpot.
Totepool is committed to horseracing in Scotland. In addition to a wide range of sponsored races and fixtures, including the Good Friday meeting at Musselburgh, the business embarks upon marketing initiatives throughout the year focused specifically on Scotland.
Scottish Racing received £9.2 million in media and data revenues in 2015 – generated through its media partners Racecourse Media Group (RMG) and TurfTV. RMG manages the media rights for 34 British racecourses, including all five racecourses in Scotland, and is best known for its horseracing channel Racing UK. TurfTV, the betting shop service of Amalgamated Racing Limited (AMRAC), broadcast live action from those 34 racecourses to British and Irish licensed betting offices.
Racing UK helps to drive attendances at racing fixtures in Scotland by staging Club Days which include free admission and a hospitality facility for Racing UK subscribers and 2,800 tickets were issued during 2015.
Jockey and equine welfare come first and foremost at Scottish Racing. We are proud to work with the Injured Jockeys Fund and the Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals to ensure the highest safety standards at all racecourses for both horses and jockeys.
